Luis' Perspective

My personal experience volunteering at the Gathering event was outstanding. In my Photo album I talked about trust. I picked the picture with kids sitting down and enjoying their company. I choose that because I’m still friends with my childhood friends and I get a strong sense of trust when I’m with them. I also picked that picture because when working on a group project together you have to trust one of other and complete your own duties. I like how I made a difference in my community because trust is what the people today had in us to provide food for them. For accountability I picked a picture with a little girl picking up her baby brother. For example, whenever one of my team members needed to step out of the line of work to do other things I would hold down the fort and cover for my team member.  My team members can count on me for anything that’s why I picked the picture of the little girl because she knows she has duties to complete and takes care of her own. Having accountability helped me made a difference in my community by going above and beyond and trying to help as many people as I can even when my team members are busy. For conflict I picked a picture of a girl pointing at a person while at mid-sentence. I chose that picture because sometimes we have to respectfully point out flaws and constructive feedback about how our teammates can improve. For example, it was a challenge to pick a date with my teammates because we were all busy with life. The solution was making a group chat, so we can all get the messages and reply as well. Having a group chat made it easy to communicate and we all compromised on a date to volunteer faster. This made a difference in the community because without group chat it would have made it difficult to plan a day. For Commitment I picked a picture of a face of a person giving it there all to win against someone in arm wrestling.  I choose that picture because it represented strength and the mindset to follow through. Being in a team you have to be committed on a task that could be a challenge for the first time, but by giving it your all and setting the right mindset it makes the task easier to complete. This is related to helping the community because when is time to volunteer you have to do task that you never did before, and you have to be committed to complete those tasks. With the help of teammates, it makes it easier to stay committed in a task as well. For Results I picked a picture of a kid miss matched socks. I choose that picture because I feel that kids are very creative, and I always try to have creative results that helps expand Knowledge. The results of volunteering were a great feeling because it made me feel good in the inside. For example, while I was giving milk and coffee for people that came to eat, one of them stopped and thanked me and my team and said how grateful he was to have wonderful people that help out people in need. In that moment I knew that this is a feeling that I like and that the results of our volunteering really payed of. This is related to helping the community because my task was to serve milk and coffee. Overall it been a while I woke up at 6am but going to help volunteer made it worth it. I didn’t expect a lot of people to go, it made me realize that in Milwaukee there are a lot of people that need help. I noticed that there been students that always go there to volunteer because the people that would come in would already know some of the students that were helping out. After everyone left we had to help clean the location, I took out the garbage and sweep the floors. I made news friends as well. It was an awesome experience and I would like to do it again.
